“Karma’s a bitch and so am I”–The Reckoning

Minneapolis punk rock veteran, Cindy Lawson, roars back onto the scene with “The Reckoning.” The track is a musical takedown of every fake, manipulating asshole out there who thinks they got away with murder, and Lawson is here to remind them that karma never sleeps.

A staple of the local punk scene, Lawson has shared spaces with the likes of The Replacements and Soul Asylum. After a deep cut from the music industry, Lawson vanished for years before having the courage to emerge on stage again. Before that, everything to Lawson that was related to music felt like a gaping, bleeding wound that wouldn’t heal.

“That part of me had been killed,” says Lawson. “I didn’t want anything to do with being on stage.”

Fast forward to 2025, and Lawson is reclaiming her power on the center stage. And there’s no better punk rock clap back than “The Reckoning.” With simple, yet cutting lines like: “Karma is a bitch/but so am I,” and “You thought you’d steal my soul/when I knelt at the altar of rock n roll,” it’s not hard to see that Lawson isn’t just back, she’s more fierce than ever before.

Of the song, Lawson dedicates it to “anyone who’s been burned, betrayed, and silenced,” and “It’s the universal satisfaction when someone evil finally gets taken down. And for me, it’s not just about them–it’s about reclaiming the part of myself they tried to destroy.”

If that isn’t enough to have’em running, I don’t know what is.
