Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds: ‘That Delicious Vice’ Review

by Amaris Pollinger (dark, spicy (picante), upbeat, serene and of course, humorous) it’s also exactly what you wouldn’t expect. The “thinking man’s garage rock band,” Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds have released their first full-length album since La Araña Es La Vida(2016). Out everywhere now, That Delicious Vice is—well—delicious (no, we didn’t eat it).  When they lost a member, frontman and LA punk/garage rock veteran Kid Congo Powers (The Gun Club, Nick Cave and the Badseeds, The Cramps, The Knoxville Girls) decided: “Why not try this as a three-piece?” This decision gave the Pink Monkey Birds space to stretch … Continue reading Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds: ‘That Delicious Vice’ Review

Rlyblonde is the Alt-Rock Girl You Need in Your Story

Brooklyn darling Carina Allen, aka Rlyblonde, does not disappoint with her latest release, “Girl in Your Story.” A hypnotic, tender B side to her electric “Your Angel,” “Girl in Your Story” is a dreamy rock ballad that explores identity, romance, and femininity. Rlyblonde is no stranger to playing on these themes in her work as a photographer and videographer, but she expands on them with a storybook ethos complete with hopeless romanticism, inspired by the fanaticalization of both men and women. “Nothing consumes quite like a crush,” Rlyblonde says of “Girl in Your Story.” With the accompanying music video produced … Continue reading Rlyblonde is the Alt-Rock Girl You Need in Your Story

Punk Legend Gina Volpe Drops Debut Solo Album Feb. 23rd

Gina Volpe, the founding member of punk rock legends Lunachicks, arrives with her debut solo album, Delete the World, on February 23rd. Equipped with a whole lot of attitude, life experiences, and brooding experimental sound, Delete the World is awash with lyrical prose that explores “coping mechanisms gone awry,” and “unintended consequences.” “With Delete the World, I get to color outside the lines and be as messy as I wanna be,” says Volpe. It might be Winter, but Gina Volpe’s debut is the sound of Summer 2024. Delete the World arrives on February 23rd. The single “Drink Me” is now … Continue reading Punk Legend Gina Volpe Drops Debut Solo Album Feb. 23rd

Milly Raccoon’s “That Girl I Left Behind Me” is a Modern Ballad for History Lovers

Nashville-based fiddle player, Milly Raccoon rips a page from the history books to breathe new life into “That Girl I Left Behind Me.” The song’s roots can be traced back to Elizabethan England when the tune was sung by British soldiers.   “It remained a wartime song for the next five centuries, with new lyrics added for each new wartime era. Notably the American Civil War and World War I,” Milly Raccoon says. Before its English title, the song was an Irish ballad known as “An Spailpin Fanach,” Gaelic for “The Wandering Laborer.”  Milly’s version is less about a romance … Continue reading Milly Raccoon’s “That Girl I Left Behind Me” is a Modern Ballad for History Lovers

J Hacha De Zola’s “Do You” is the Anti-Love Song of the Summer

“If you’re looking for a heartwarming love song, then you’ve come to the wrong place,” says New Jersey musician J Hacha De Zola of his latest single, Do You. “This one is a straightforward Motown-ish tune with all the amorous feelings of wanting to be loved and desired but also being thoroughly clueless and disconnected from the actual dance,” J continues.   Do You is equipped with J’s signature, haunting blues and brooding (a compliment, of course). It is a track that begs a response—any response—from a detached lover. Just another prime piece peeled from J Hacha De Zola’s upcoming … Continue reading J Hacha De Zola’s “Do You” is the Anti-Love Song of the Summer

Listen to J Hacha De Zola’s New Single, “I’m High”

New Jersey artist, J Hacha De Zola released his latest single, “I’m High,” on April 4th of this year. Despite his upcoming album’s title, Without a Tribe, J (as he is known) certainly has a tribe. The album includes a slew of talent consisting of Fernando Velez (Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings) and producer John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Waxahatchee, Horsegirl).  J Hacha De Zola’s “I’m High,” is anything but a tale of euphoria. Of the track, J says, “despite one thinking of ‘getting high’ as a euphoric experience, as any true addict will tell you, it soon stops being fun … Continue reading Listen to J Hacha De Zola’s New Single, “I’m High”
